Activities at the Spinney Children's Centre


Our staff have a great deal of knowledge about support and activities in and around the area. They are always happy to talk to you. The outreach workers are able to provide advice and guidance on many topics including development, feeding, housing and benefits. They would be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns.

Details of the regular sessions run by the Spinney Team are below:  

Midwives Clinic
Please phone 01483 510570 after 8.15 on a Wednesday morning for an appointment the same day.  Midwives can make you an appointment in advance.

Fun with Food
A short course of fun sessions for parents and children to enjoy cooking together and trying different foods, and for parents to learn how to cook healthily on a budget and understand food labels. Booking essential.


Development Checks
Parents/carers will be invited to attend a development check by their health visitor. These group sessions provide an opportunity for your child to play while the Health Visitor checks your child’s development and discusses any concerns with you.


Toy Library
A fantastic selection of toys for you to borrow, without the expense of having to buy them! Information cards included to give ideas for play and information on how the toys support your child’s development. Drop in session.


 Preparation for School

Information sessions for parents covering preparing your child for school, finding a school and life at school.


First Aid
A two hour session run by St Johns ambulance focusing on paediatric first aid. These sessions are run termly. Please contact us to add your name to the waiting list for the next session. Booking essential.


Parenting Courses
At the Spinney we offer parenting courses to help you enhance your parenting skills, Magic 123 . Please drop in or give us a call to discuss your requirements with an outreach worker. Booking essential.


Baby Clinic
Drop in clinic for baby weighing and advice from the health visitors in areas such as play and development , sleep problems, behaviour management, eating problems and nutrition, speech and language and toilet training.



The session promotes listening and understanding skills through a structured programme of stories, songs and rhymes. It incorporates Book Start Corner and Book Start resources are used and given to families who attend. Parents are encouraged to contact the centre to book their child on and to arrange a meeting with the programme leader if required.

Stay & Play Groups

Fun and interactive sessions for parents and children to play together. They are carefully planned to stimulate children’s senses and imagination as well as aiding development. The sessions are facilitated by our Play worker and supported by Outreach Workers from the Children’s Centre and will provide an opportunity to gain support and advice for all the family.


Pre-Walkers Baby Group

An opportunity for new parents to meet others in a relaxed stimulating environment.  The session is facilitated by our Play worker and supported by Outreach Workers.  We offer suitable equipment for early play for babies who have not started to walk.  Once your child is walking we suggest joining our stay and play sessions on Monday or Thursday.
